From the back cover....
Take time out with God.
This book has been designed to guide you through a day long creative retreat or quiet day whether it be at home or away.
It offers a combination of prayers and activities. Some to challenge and some to help you relax and clear your mind and always to encourage you to hear the ‘still, small voice’.
Mark and Mary Fleeson have lived on the Holy Island of Lindisfarne since 1997, where they run the Lindisfarne Scriptorium and Mary regularly leads retreats and workshop days. Prior to that they led a Christian theatre group which worked around the UK and they regularly led day workshops combining Christian theatre with a deeper experience of meeting God.
From the introduction...
Welcome to this little book, it has been designed to guide you through a day long retreat or quiet day whether it be at home or away.
It offers prayers and activities. Some to challenge and some to help you relax and clear your mind.
There is a Monastic tradition of splitting the day into sections known as the canonical hours. Most commonly these are known as: Invitatory, the introduction to the theme and focus for the day; Matins; Lauds; Terce; Sext; None; Vespers and Compline.
We have split this day retreat into eight sections but please don’t feel you have to do all of the sections in one day, you could plan to have a retreat starting on one evening and run into the next day or stretch it over a weekend. Start with the Invitatory section and focus activity and then work through each section at your own pace.
Finally, don’t undo any good by worrying that you haven’t completed everything. Please look at the comments at the back of this book for some additional thoughts and ideas.
With every blessing,
Mark and Mary Fleeson
