Words:

'Love Is Come Again'

Lyrics:

Now the green blade riseth,
from the buried grain,
Wheat that in dark earth
many days has lain;
Love lives again,
that with the dead has been:
Love is come again
like wheat that springeth green.

In the grave they laid Him,
Love who had been slain,
Thinking that He never
would awake again,
Laid in the earth
like grain that sleeps unseen:
Love is come again
like wheat that springeth green.

Forth He came at Easter,
like the risen grain,
Jesus who for three days
in the grave had lain;
Quick from the dead
the risen One is seen:
Love is come again
like wheat that springeth green.

When our hearts are wintry,
grieving, or in pain,
Jesus' touch can call us
back to life again,
Fields of our hearts
that dead and bare have been:
Love is come again
like wheat that springeth green.

Background:

Based on the Hymn 'Now The Green Blade Riseth', written by Reverend Canon John Macleod Campbell Crum in 1928.

The simple words present a joyous vision of the resurrection and of the eternal life offered to us through Jesus.

The author was born October 12, 1872, Mere Old Hall, Cheshire, England and died December 19, 1958 in Farnham, Surrey, England. A graduate of New College, Oxford (BA 1895, MA 1901), Crum was ordained as a deacon in 1897, and priest in 1900. He was assistant curate at St. John the Evangelist, Darlington; domestic chaplain to Francis Paget, Bishop of Oxford; assistant curate, Windsor; Vicar of Mentmore with Ledburn; Rector of Farnham; and Canon of Canterbury.
