Words:
Yonder is the great and wide sea: therein are moving things innumerable, living creatures small and great. Psalm 104:25
Background:
Here on Holy Island we often hear a most eerie sound, it is especially loud on still, moonlit nights and many visitors are spooked by the ghostly cries. They are relieved to find out that it is the sound of seals, singing whilst resting on the shorelines and sandbars. We have come to cherish their song as being something that adds to the uniqueness of the Island along with the cries of the seabirds and the deep rumble of pebbles being turned by the waves at high tide.
This piece came about after medititating on what Mary wrote about the previous piece, Creator God. For that, Mary wrote
"We are fortunate to have a large colony of Puffins just down the coast at the Farne Islands and have gone out on the boat from Seahouses to see them and the seals. Living on Holy Island we are always surrounded by wildlife, tides, large skies and very starry nights. It's easy to see God's creation and celebrate it. Finding God in all things is at the core of Ignatian Spirituality and is rooted in the growing awareness that God can found in everyone, in every place and in everything. When we learn to pay more attention to God, we become more thankful and reverent, and through this we become more devoted to God, more deeply in love with our Creator."
