“Consider how the wild flowers grow. They do not labour or spin. Yet I tell you, not even Solomon in all his splendour was dressed like one of these.” Luke 12:27 NIV

Background:

Spinning was work traditionally done by women and this passage confirms that Jesus’ teaching and offer of salvation was for women as well as men but that is not the only message in the words. It is also a call to complete faith, not faith that if we just don’t do anything God will just pour all that we need into our laps but faith that God will provide for our needs whether it’s by giving us skills, by enabling us to learn or by sending people to us who can help us.
It is uncertain as to exactly what wildflower was used as the example, in his record of the moment, Matthew mentions lilies but even that is not a definitive description, I have chosen to use the Iris and in the knotwork, a hint of the Turk’s Cap Lily.
