Matthew 18:10 ESV
“See that you do not despise one of these little ones. For I tell you that in heaven their angels always see the face of my Father who is in heaven. |
Psalm 91:11 ESV
For he will command his angels concerning you to guard you in all your ways. |
Revelation 12:7-9 ESV
Now war arose in heaven, Michael and his angels fighting against the dragon. And the dragon and his angels fought back, but he was defeated, and there was no longer any place for them in heaven. And the great dragon was thrown down, that ancient serpent, who is called the devil and Satan, the deceiver of the whole world - he was thrown down to the earth, and his angels were thrown down with him. |
Background:
Angels are mentioned throughout the Bible, they are messengers and warriors and probably didn’t have wings! However I have chosen to include the wings as a symbol of their non-human origins. Many years ago I wrote the following humorous poem, it inspired the modern appearance of the angel in the image and his poise, ‘sword in hand.’
There’s an angel in the corner
Standing, sword in hand,
I’m not sure what he looks like
Or what he had for supper,
Or if he folds his wings
When he’s enjoying a cupper.
There’s an angel in the corner
Standing, sword in hand,
I like to think he’s smiling,
Guarding me from harm.
Healing any darkness cracks,
With angel balm.
There’s an angel in the corner
Standing, sword in hand,
Sent by God because I asked
When I was pretty low,
But now I know, my angel
Has always been in tow.
There’s an angel in your corner...
